Smoky, herbal aromas, a tannic mouthfeel and austere flavors like unsweetened cranberries characterize this deliberately taut wine. It might soften with time, but it's tough to discern if the fruit character can sustain long-term aging.

Grapy aromas and tart fruit flavors make this a lean, edgy wine that's not overtly fruity or rich. But the smell of wood smoke and blackerries, and the tart black cherry flavors are vivid, energetic and mouthwatering.
