Blackberry, soy, purple flower and caramel scents show on the nose of this bottling from a cool-climate vineyard. Deep blackberry and black currant fruit shows on the palate, accented with hints of beef char, lavender and thyme.

You might want to stash this Syrah away for a year or so to let it mellow. Right out of the bottle, it's tannic and fresh in red berry and stone fruit jam. Cool-climate complexities of pepper and grilled bacon enhance the pleasure.

Lots of structure in this Syrah, with brisk acids and firm tannins. It's bone dry and silky in texture, with interesting flavors of berries, licorice, sautéed mushrooms and salty smoked meat. Elegant now, after a brief decanting, and should hold for a couple of years.
